A group of Land Rover enthusiasts from the Tendring Hundred, Essex are off on a 16,000 mile mission; their aim to raise more money for WaterAid.
All funds raised by Tendring Water Aid Team go directly to WaterAid.
The members of the team will fully fund the vehicles, travelling and expenses from their own pockets.
On this occasion the team will consist of five full members, George Wright, Sam Lawrence and Robert MacDonald (all of whom completed the 2005 run down the East Side), Michael Johnson and his son Martin in three Land Rover Defenders. The sixth seat will be filled by a relay of Co-drivers including Edward Wright, Charlie Wright and Martin Aleksandrovs. They will depart from Great Bentley Village Green at 11:00am on Sunday 7th December after a blessing at 10:45am by Canon Bernard Metcalfe.
The route this time will be to London Bridge then on to Portsmouth for a ferry to Saint-Malo through Europe to the tip of Spain, ferry to Ceute-Fez Morocco, Western Sahara, Mauritania, Senegal, Mali, Burkino Faso, Ghana, Togo, Benin, Nigeria, Cameroon, Gabon, Congo, The Democratic Republic of Congo, Angola, Namibia and finally to South Africa.
Family and friends are invited to Great Bentley Green to see the Team off, with as many Land Rovers as we can muster to start the Convoy, The West Way Down.
WaterAid's mission is to overcome poverty by enabling the worlds poorest people to gain access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene education.
