fundraising -> why WaterAid
In September of 1997 Vanessa Botterill contracted what was believed to be Mengril Malaria in the Village of Nakuru, sadly soon after she passed away whilst still there just 24 years old. Vanessa's brother Hugh worked on the farm of George Wright in 1996 and 1999.

Over one billion people in the world are without safe water and over two billion lack sanitation. As a result a child dies every 15 seconds from water related diseases. WaterAid works in 15 countries in Africa and Asia to help some of the worlds poorest communities set up and maintain their own water and sanitation supplies. WaterAid is the UK's only major charity dedicated exclusively to the provision of safe domestic water, sanitation and hygiene education to the world's poorest people, playing a key role to help achieve the Millennium Development Goals, including the target of halving the proportion of people without access to safe water and sanitation by 2015. In 2004/2005 WaterAid helped 700,000 people gain access to clean water and 400,000 people gain access to sanitation. However it would not be able to do so without continued support from events such as this, which is why we need your help.
For our trip in 2005-6 we managed to raise £50,640.00, adding GiftAid this gave a total in exccess of £60,000 for WaterAid. This time there is a smaller team, but we are still hoping to raise substantial sum. So far for 2008-9 we have already raised £10,193.39, including £520.00 from our justgiving page, excluding GiftAid. Please see the justgiving for the latest updates.
